Brent Reese joined the Greenville Little League umpire crew for the 2009 season, but like new
felllow umpire Quinton Kinman, Brent has deep roots in GLL. His older son Christopher was an excellent player for GLL for years, moving
up through the ranks and representing our league as an All-Star in district tournaments,
and his younger son Griffin is a member of the Minors Diamondback team in the
Spring 2010 season after moving up from two years as an excellent coach-pitch
players. The Reese boys' baseball talents come naturally, as Brent himself was
an excellent player in high school and was one of the gifted few that could play
at the "next level," earning all Southeastern Conference honors as a stand-out
first baseman and slugger for the Alabama Crimson Tide. Brent patrolled the diamond
at Tuscaloosa and around the SEC and the nation when SEC baseball was in its heyday
as the premier NCAA conference, playing against - and holding his own! - with
such future major leaguers as Frank Thomas at Auburn, Todd Helton at Tennessee and
many others. Brent's extensive experience as a top-level player and now as a parent of aspiring
players gives him a unique perspective on youth baseball and shows in the way
he handles himself on the field. He is always in the right position to make the
call and understands all the subtle nuances in what it takes to play the game
well. He is able to instruct players (and sometimes even us coaches!) on the "whys
and hows" of the game. They say in baseball, you can never say you have "seen
it all" because every game brings some new situation, but in playing the game
at many levels and coaching and advising his sons, Brent has surely seen a lot
of baseball ! Thanks Brent for sharing your special talent and skills with Greenville Little League!
