Tigers 20 Giants 19 |
Back and forth game with a big, two-out, come back by the never-say-die Giants
to make it 19 - 18 going into the bottom of the 6th after being down 18 - 12.
2-run walk-off RBI hit by Tiger Sam Jones to win the game. Big hitting by top
4 hitters for Giants (don't think the Tigers ever got them out) -- Dixon Douglas,
Gil Sizer, Alex Brown and William Phillips -- and great hitting in the 6th by
others -- Hunter Balck, Liam Easley, Jeffrey Johnsen, Trey Key, and Wilson Smith.
Also, great defense by Sizer to run down countless runners at the plate and many
put outs at first by Douglas. On the Tigers side, big home run and hits by Tucker
Shaw; leadoff legs by Denton Knox; great hitting again by Jack Johnson including
a would-be-home-run-turned-triple going back to third; and great base running
by Brooks Lucas and Jack Strausbaugh. Excellent defense by the Shaw/Jack Jopling
combo and cluth hits from Wilson Smith, Matt Ninneman, John David Terry, Jones
and Strausbaugh. Hustle awards to Lucas and Christopher Riley. Great season for
the Giants! Their record may not show it, but they were T-O-U-G-H! |

In this elimination game between the Tigers and the Cubs both teams came out
ready to play. In the top of the 1st the Tigers Carson Spiers was able to retire
the side after 4 batters and hold the Cubs big bats scoreless. In the bottom of
the 1st the Tigers finally got things going and were able to send 7 batters to
the plate and score 2 runs. This game had about everything on both sides with
some good hits, walks, hit batters, strike outs and aggressive base running. In
the top of the 2nd the Cubs then sent 7 batters to the plate and got 2 runs across
the plate to tie the game 2-2. Justin bailey then came back out on the mound and
held the Tigers scoreless with the Tigers leaving a stranded runner on base. In
the top of the 3rd the Cubs again got good production out of their offence with
Elliott Gilmer reaching base before Bailey hit one to dead mans corner in right
field for a 2 RBI home run. Will Chandler and Patrick Henry then finished the
scoring up adding 1 more run to go up 5-2. This seesaw battle continued with the
Tigers adding 3 more runs from Reeves, Spiers and Strausbaugh to tie the game
up at 5-5. The Tigers then brought Reeves on to pitch in the top of the 4th relieving
Spiers and was able to hold the Cubs to just 1 run but again the Tigers fell behind
by 1 run at 6-5. In the bottom of the 4th the Tigers got things going with Chase
Poplin, Aubrie Lauderdale and Worth Gentry getting on base and scoring to take
an 8-6 lead. With time running out, Tigers Neal Satterfield relieved Reeves and
was able to shut the Cubs down to preserve the win 8-6. Congratulations to the
Cubs on a good season and good luck to the Tigers as they try to advance their
way through the loser bracket. |

The 2nd-seed A's and 5th-seed Cubs tangled Tuesday with the Cubbies primed to
pull off an elimination game upset. Their bats were booming early with Merritt
Grace's double (1 for 3, 1 run) and Matthew Mahaffey's (1 for 3, 1 run) single
setting the table for an RBI single by Conrad Pentaleri (1 for 3, 1 run) and a
run-producing double by Fletcher Mazzola (2 for 3, 1run) to post a 3-run lead
after a half-inning. The A's answered immediately with lead-off hitters Andres
Garcia (1 for 3, 1 run), Thomas Whatley (2 for 3, 1run) and Sam Macfie (2 for
3, 1 run) all getting hits and scoring on RBIs by Read Perkins (2 for 3, 2 runs)
and "Mr Clutch" Edward Pollock (3 for 3, 4 RBIs, gameball) to knot the score .
The A's defense tightened in the middle innings, allowing just single runs in
the 2nd, 4th and 5th, while their offense keep rolling, putting up 3 runs again
in the 2nd and in 3rd, highlighted by Pollock's 2-run homer, to make the score
9-5 A's going to the bottom of the 4th. The Cub's defense then showed its grit
and determination, shutting out the A's in the 4th and 5th behind clutch defensive
stops by Austin Hall, Bradley Hughes, and Zach Idris along with Pentaleri and
Mahaffey. setting the stage for a pressured-packed 6th inning. With the A's
up 9-6, Bradley Hughes (2 for 3, HR) ignited the Cubs comeback, circling the bases after
1 out. The A's defense got the 2nd out, but the never-say-die Cubs rallied like
champions, with Mazzola doubling ahead of a rocket-shot triple by Idris, who then
raced home on Erik Rolfe's game-tieing single. The A's defense put out the fire
with a putout by pitcher-1B combo Tom Freeland to Sam Macfie and went to the home-half
of the 6th in a 9-all tie. The Cub's defense had faced the previous 10 A's batters
without allowing any runs, but with the season on the line, the A's most consistent
hitter Read Perkins worked his magic again, barely beating our a grounder down
the 3rd base line. With 3-RBIs already, Edward Pollock was the hero a third
time in the game, drilling a walk-off double to the left-field fence and bringing
Perkins all the way from first with the game-winning run. Congratulations to
the Cubs players and coaches for showing improvement in every game through the
season and coming within inches of a hard-fought playoff win. And good luck
to the A's who lived to fight another day in a very competitive Coach-Pitch Tournament!

Minors
Cardinals 10 Giants 8 |
|
The Cardinals continued their late season batting surge to stay alive in the
Minors Tournament with a hard-fought 10-8 victory over the Giants on Wednesday
night. Led by James Farish's perfect 3-3 night at the plate and John Toohey's
5 RBI performance, 7 different Cardinals crossed the plate in the game. Another
strong pitching performance by winning pitcher Lucas Coan and a well-earned save
by Cannon Few kept the Giants in check for much of the game, but as usual, the
Caridac Cardinals can't ever avoid drama at the end. ----------------------------------
Both starting pitchers, the Cardinals Coan and Will Wynkoop of the Giants started
strongly, with dual shutouts in the first. The second saw the Cards get on the
board first after a leadoff J. Farish double in the second, with the elder Farish
scion scoring the first run of the game after a steal of third and a wild pitch,
followed by yet another shutout inning by Coan. The Cards struck again in the
third, with a Bonner Snyder single, a stolen base, hustling Coan baserunning,
and Toohey's first RBI which left the score 3-0 Cardinals. The Giants showed their
mettle in the bottom of the frame, plating four runs on a Conner Stephenson bunt
and run and run and run and score, and runs by Tyler Brown, Beale Wood and Wynkoop
with RBI from Wynkoop and Ben Smith. The Cards were able to retake the lead in
the 4th after J. Farish had another lead-off hit, a walk and a stolen base from
Mathew Farish, and a perfectly executed sacrifice bunt by Max Englebardt for an
RBI to make the score 5-4. Back came the Giants to tie things up in the bottom
of the fourth when Carter Jay reached on an error and came around to score on
Stephenson's RBI. The fifth proved to be the key inning for the Red Birds though,
plating another three runs to take an 8-5 lead. Snyder led the way with a single,
and after walks to Bobby Hudson and Coan, Toohey ripped a 2-RBI double to the
gap in left center. J. Farish's third hit plated Coan. After Coan struck out the
side in the fifth, the Cards were able to get a couple of insurance runs in the
top of the 6th. Jake Garland led off with a single to left, Gates Armstong walked,
and both scored on Toohey's second 2-RBI double in as many innnings for a 10-5
lead. But the top of the Giants order was up, and they weren't ready to give up.
Wynkoop walked and scored on Hank Nichols RBI. Drennan Quattlebaum then walked
and John Bowman cut the score to 10-8 with a 2-RBI smashed to center. After a
Few strikeout the Giants ran out of come-back room due to the 8-batter rule and
the game and hard-fought season ended for the GLL Minors version of the Boys from
the Bay. The 7th-seeded Cardinals will try to advance to the Final Three of this
year's tournament next Tuesday night against the regular-season champion Marlins.
If their first three games of the tourney are any indication, don't forget your
heart medication! |

A game that no words can express enough was classic to say the least. A playoff
game between regualar seasons #1 and #2 seeds. A beautiful night and a huge crowd
on hand to watch these 2 teams give the all to try and stay alive in the tournament.
The Tigers started ace Wilson Strausbaugh who pitched awesome for 3 1/3 innings
before reaching his pitch limit. He had 4 SO and allowed only 1 run to the Marlins.
The Marlins went to Rudy Johnstone who also had a superb night with 5 SO and only
allowed 3 runs. The Tigers were up 1st and went 1-2-3. The Marlins were also stopped
with only 1 runner reaching base. Johnstone then had another stellar inning retiring
the side in order. The Marlins threatened with a leadoff dbl by Mitchell Bryant
but was stranded at 3rd as great defence by the Tigers kept the Marlins from scoring.
The Tigers in the 3rd did manage a hit by Will Taylor but couldn t reach home
on another strikeout by Johnstone to end the inning. The Marlins manage to get
a run in the 3rd when Michael Redman reached on a walk, moved to 2nd on a walk
by Ian Miller, then scored on a hard hit ball down the 3rd base line that just
barely got by Neil Satterfields glove. Satterfield did manage to slow it down
enough that Johnstone only reached 2nd. The Tigers went into the 4th down a run
and answered quickly with 3 runs by Wes Reeves(who had a great night catching,
scored 2 runs)Carson Spiers(2 runs scored,triple)and Strausbaugh to take a 3-1
lead. The Marlins came back to tie with Atticus Lindsey and John Krall reaching
base and scoring when Wyatt Meadors had his 1st of a 2 big hit game. The Tigers
failed to score in 5th getting only one hit with Taylor(2-2). The Marlins got
their leadoff batter Charlie Fink on base in the bottom of the 5th needing a run
to break the tie. Followed by a steal and then a bomb to right field from Ian
Miller who almost ran over Fink trying to get a HR but was tagged out after rounding
3rd but giving the Marlins a 1 run lead with the final inning coming up.The Tigers
needed a run to tie and 2 to go ahead. The Marlins have gone to the bullpen and
brought out Ian Miller trying to get his 4th save against the meat of the Tigers
order. Wes Reeves lead off with a single followed by a hard shot down the left
field line that stayed just fair by Spiers who ended up with a RBI and a triple.
Spiers then scored on a hit by Neil Satterfield to give the Tigers a 5-4 lead.
The Marlins facing the same situation as the Tigers were the inning before had
to have at least 1 run to tie and send to extra innings. Walker Carroll lead off
with a single. Atticus Lindsey hit his hardest ball of the year to score Carroll
and reach 3rd base on the throw home. With the winning run at 3rd the tigers brought
the infield in looking for the squeeze. The Play worked as the batter struck out.
So with 2 outs, winning run at 3rd Wyatt Meadors in the moment he has always dreamed
about. Can he do it. With 2 strikes he nails a ball over 2nd base that drops into
short right field and has the winning RBI. WOW what a game. Awesome Job Tigers
and a great year to go with it. Keep your heads up. Way to go Marlins.Keep on
Keeping on. |

With neither team wanting their season to come to an end, the Giants and Cubs
played a hard, offensively weighted ballgame. Leadoff man, Garrett Keller, got
things started for the Cubs with a single and scored on Robert Borowicz's triple.
Mac Ellison drove in Borowicz to give the Cubs a 2 run lead. The Giants tied the
game in the bottom half on a sharp hit by Thomas Cain to score Hal Stephenson
and Barrett Maddox. Christopher Reese kept the Cubs scoreless in the 2nd thanks
largely to an unassisted double play turned by Stephenson on a hard grounder up
the middle off the bat of Michael Spiers. The Giants plated 5 runs in the bottom
of the 2nd. Max Burgess started the inning with a double, Stephenson drove in
Burgess with a single, Maddox walked and Reese hit a 3 run homer over leftcenter.
Kevin Victory and Cain both followed that with doubles. The Cubs bounced back
in the 3rd on conse cutive singles by Borowicz and Ellison, both scored on Jaime
Connor's double. Nolan Bagnal singled and scored in the 3rd for the Giants making
the score 8-5 Giants after 3 innings. The Cubs grabbed the lead back in the 4th,
scoring 5 runs. Rich Milligan got things started with a single followed by walks
to Keller and Spiers then Borowicz reached safely driving in one, Ellison doubled
driving in two, Connor singled and Jordan Ford singled. Will Myers relieved Reese
in the 4th a calmly got the Giants out of the inning with two strikeouts. Thomas
Cain leadoff the 4th for the Giants with his third hit of the night and later
scored. Ford relieved Ellison in the 4th and kept the Giants scoreless the final
two innings. With the game knotted at 9, the Cubs scored 5 in the 6th. Connor
leadoff with a homer to right. Ford walked and scored, Ash Harward singled and
scored, Hayden Mansure singled and scored, Jack Cottingham singled and scored,
and Keller singled. The Giants neede d a comeback to stay alive in the tournament
but Ford didn't give them any hope, getting 2 pop outs to first and a grounder
to second to end the game. Great season by the Giants and good luck to the Cubs
as they take on the Marlins in another elimination game. |
