On a beautiful Monday afternoon, the Cubs hosted the visiting Tigers at Timmons
Park. It would be the Cubs 3rd game in 3 days. The Tigers jumped out to an early
3 run lead in the top of the 1st with hits by Matthew Ninneman (2 for 3, 2 runs),
Tucker Shaw ( 2 for 3, 1 run), JD Terry (3 for 3, 2 runs) and Jack Strausbaugh
(2 for 3, 2 runs). The Cubs would fight back scoring 4 runs on 7 big hits by Austin
Hall (3 for 3, 2 runs), Matthew Mahaffey (3 for 3, 2 runs), Merritt Grace (2 for
3, 2 runs), Conrad Pentaleri (2 for 3, 2 runs), Bradley Hughes (3 for 3, 3 runs),
Drew Cunningham (2 for 3) and Zachary Idris (3 for 3, 2 runs). The 2nd inning
featured great defense and both teams were held scoreless. In the 3rd inning the
Tigers would generate 2 more runs off hits by Jack Jopling and Tucker Shaw, but
the Cubs would answer with 7 runs of their own featuring key hits by Dolan Foster
and Fle tcher Mazzola. After 3 inning the Cubs led 11 to 5. The Cubs added to
this lead in the 4th and 5th inning and after 5 innings the score was 15 to 7.
The Tigers would rally in the top of the 6th scoring 4 runs on 6 hits with key
hits by Denton Knox and Sam Jones, but the rally would prove to be too little
too late. Final score 15 to 11. Congratulations Cubs. |

The Athletics arrived at Timmons to play the home team Cubs Tuesday night. Both
of these undefeated teams were looking for a third straight win of the season
and this was probably the game of the week. The Cubs are one of the most physical
team in the division and set the tone early with their bats as they came out swinging.
The Athletics outfield denied the Cubs of several big hits that would have turned
the game in their favor. The Cubs would not go away or give up and threatened
to take the game all the way through the fifth inning. Patrick Henry & Alex
Mahaffey pitched for the home team Cubs and together recorded 5 KO’s against the
Athletics. The A’s jumped out ahead with 2 runs in the first inning, but the Cubs
came back and tied the game at 2 all. The Athletics pulled away in the second
inning scoring a total of 6 runs with the help of a home run from Zach Cooter
with bases loaded. The Cubs powerful pitching game combined with their awesome
defense shut the A’s down and limited them to just 3 more runs through the 5th
inning. Their bats came alive in the 3rd & 5th innings scoring 5 more runs
to narrow the A’s lead to just 4 runs. Both teams made several critical defensive
plays in the outfield on well-hit balls. Reese Wilson, Jake Dill, Bruce Stephenson
& Michael Stone made great defensive plays for the A’s. . Harrison Stall came
off the injured reserves list for the Cubs and had a great showing defensively
and offensively. The Cubs managed to combine a total of 10 hits for 7 runs but
the Athletics defense held on and pulled out their third win of the season. |

, as reflected in the fact the score was 8-8 after 3 innings...each team w/ one
big offensive inning during the game, each w/ one poor defensive inning. the giants

A well played game by both teams! Suberb pitching by both starting pitchers,
Rudy Johnstone and Hank Nichols, who chalked up 12 big strikeouts, keeping the
scoring low. Both relievers, Atticus Lindsey and John Bowman threw strikes and
both kids pitched very well. Hard hitting by Rudy, Bryce Reeves, Mitchell Bryant
and Atticus kept the Giants on their toes. Fans were excited to see a great pickle
rundown with Mitchell, Walker Carroll, and Rudy running down the base runner between
3rd and home! Walker proved to be a great defender of the plate with a great toss
to Atticus on a passed ball to record an out. Marlins center fielder Will Carlon
made a spectacular catch on a high fly ball to deep center. With the season still
being early, it was obvious that both teams will record more wins going forward.

The Cardinals and Orioles squared off Tuesday night at Timmons Park, each team
entering with a 1-0 record. In a contest in which the high quality of play more
closely resembled late May than mid-March, the Cardinals escaped with a 6-4 victory.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
• The pitching was outstanding. Orioles starter Brandon Hood established himself
as one of the premier pitchers in all of GLL Majors. Brandon threw hard, changed
ball pace, and hit his spots to strike out 8 batters and walk only 3 before max’ing
out with 85+ pitches with two outs in the fourth. Jake Mace then pitched the remainder
of the game for the O’s without allowing a single run to score. For the Cardinals,
starter Will Robertson displayed his wide array of pitches with pinpoint control,
managing to get through 4 2/3 innings (21 batters) in only 60 pitches with only
one walk surrendered. Cards crack reliever Brooks Brady recorded his second consecutive
clutch save.
• Batting leaders for the Orioles included Benton Stillwell, who reached base
in all three of his plate appearances and scored a run, and Hood (2-2, double,
walk, run). The Cards batters were led by Devon Ciufo (2-2, triple, single, walk,
RBI, 3 runs), and Robertson (3-3, 2 doubles, single, 3 RBI’s, run).
• The game featured great defensive efforts by both teams, with special mention
going to and infielders Blakely Swenson, Jake Mace, Andrew Carter and Weston Nalley
of the O’s, and center fielder Ciufo, catcher Dixon Collins and 3rd baseman Matthew
Davis of the Cards. |

The A's bats finally starting rocking and the defense kept rolling against the
Cubs in a game with the type of ups and downs you can only see in Coach Pitch
games at Timmons. After holding the A's to two runs in the opening frame, the
hard-swinging Cubs sprinted to 4-2 lead after the first behind three straight
hits by Merritt Grace (2 for 3, 2 runs), Bradley Hughes's double (2 for 3), and
Drew Cunningham (3 for 3). The A's offensive drought continued with just one run
in the 2nd, keyed by Will Turrentine's (2 for 3, 2 runs) double and Austin McCalla's
RBI. The Cubs stretched their advantage to 7-3 after two with hits by the Tiernan
Armstorng, the ailing but tenacious Conrad Pentalari, and a blast by Cubs pitcher
Matthew Mahaffey (2 for 3). The shell-shocked A's defense then regained its cool
and shut down the Cubs with just one more run through the game's wrapup in the
sixth, with a sparkling catch of a sure Mahaffey homer by rock-solid LF John Price
(2 for 3, 2runs) and incredible catches of rocket throws at 1st base by small
but rock-steady Sam Macfie . In the top of the 3rd, the A's bats, which had been
cold as ice in their first two wins, heated up in a hurry with 8 big hits from
the first nine hitters, with all 8 runners scoring in a 10-batter explosion. This
hit parade included Jennings Huskey (2 for 4, 2 runs after being out 2 weeks due
to illness), speedster Andres Garcia (2 for 4, 2 runs), Thomas Whatley (3 for
3, 3 runs, batting .800 for the season), Tom Freeland (2 for 3, 2 runs)and Turretine's
second straight LF-blaster as the A's built an 11-7 lead. The Cub's defense battled
back in the 4th and 5th to limit the damage to just a run, despite missing ace
second-baseman and clean-up hitter Conrad Pentalari, who was sidelined by an upset
stomach after a courageous try to play the first two innings, and Fletcher Mazzola
gamely playing on with a similar stomach bug. The A's offense roared back against
the depleted Cub's defense in the 6th, with seven more consecutive hits and seven
more runs, ignited by Sam Macfie's third triple of the game (3 for 4, 3 runs,
game ball) who played hurt also after taking a hard shot on a great play by the
Cub's tag-out specialist catcher Zach Idris (3 for 3) as Slammin' Sammy tried
to stretch one of his triples to a homer. The A's comeback from a 7-3 deficit
to a 19-8 win really proves that games really "ain't over 'til they're over" in
CP. Best wishes and get-well-quick to the Cub's Conrad and Fletcher and to the
A's Macfie and to Julian Espada who has been battling a nasty virus and fever-
this game might have needed medical staff more than it needed us coaches! |

The Tigers and the Cardinals squared off Wednesday evening that was a back and
forth battle up to the end. The Tigers Wilson Strausbaugh took to the mound for
the Tigers and pitched exceptionally well giving up just 3 walks 2 hits and getting
6 strike outs. The first inning the Cardinals were lead by Bonner Snyder hitting
a triple and later scoring to get on the board first. The Tigers then sent 8 batters
to the plate with Wes Reeves and Strausbaugh crossing the plate on Neil Satterfield’s
double. The Cardinals Lucas Coan kept the heat on doing a great job pitching with
Bobby Hudson catching a great game keeping the game close 4-3 Tigers at the end
of 3 innings. The Tigers got great production out of Chase Poplin catching, Jack
McEvoy getting a great 8th batter hit and Thomas Lister making two terrific pop
fly catches at 2nd base. The bottom of the 4th the Tigers opened the game up with
Aub rie Lauderdale, Worth Gentry, Tudor Malik and Will Taylor getting on base
and crossing the plate to give the Tigers 6 additional runs to make the score
10-4 Tigers. Carson Spiers then took over for Strausbaugh and closed out the game
getting 4 strike outs in 6 batters to preserve the win 10-4 Tigers. This was a
well fought battle for both teams and good luck to the Cardinals the rest of the
season. Congratulations Tigers. |

Cubs 5 Athletics 4
What started out as a pitchers dual between starters, Robert Borowicz (7K's)
and Glenn Batson (7K's) ended in a nail biter with the Cubs edging the A's. Borowicz
and Batson began with blazing fastballs and retired the three batters they each
faced in the first on strikeouts. The A's scratched out a run in the top of the
2nd off a leadoff walk to Batson but Borowicz settled in and stranded 3 runners
by striking out the side again. Jaime Connor broke the silence of the bats with
a hard hit single to right in the bottom of the 2nd but was unable to score. Mac
Ellison came on in relief for the Cubs in the 3rd and pitched three strong innings
of no run baseball for the Cubs. The Cubs were able to get on the board and tie
the game in the bottom of the 4th thanks to a leadoff walk to Michael Spiers and
a rbi single by Jordan Ford. In the bottom of the 5th, the Cubs pushed 4 runs
across on a walk to Jack Cottingham, a rbi single by Ellison, a rbi single by
Borowicz and a rbi single by Ford who eventually scored on a passed ball. The
A's wouldn't give up and made things very interesting in the top of the 6th. Batson
lead off with a walk and scored on a double by Mason Simmons who also scored.
Moore Lockman walked and enventually scored but reliever Michael Spiers calmly
coaxed a game ending bases loaded pop up to the end the game and preserve the
Cubs first win of the season. The 3 Cubs pitchers combined for 12 K's and gave
up 3 hits while the 4 A's pitchers pitched well also striking out 9 and giving
up 5 hits.

On a warm, beautiful afternoon at Timmons Park, the Tigers held on to beat the
Cardinals, 17 - 13. The Cardinals started the game by sending 10 to the plate
in the first and bringing home 7 runs. Hard hits from Will Williamson (3B), Reid
Johnstone (2B) and Thomas Williams (2B) in the inning sparked the Cards rally.
The Tigers clawed back with 3 runs in the bottom of the first behind a string
of singles. In the second inning, both teams displayed their defensive prowess
and neither team scored. Power hitters Beau Thompson (3/3 with 2 doubles and a
triple) and Reid Johnstone (3/3 with a single, double, HR) provided the fire power
in the third as the Cardinals pushed across another run to take an 8 - 3 lead.
The Cats finally started to unleash their power in the third with big hits from
Jack Jopling (4/4, triple), and back-to-back home runs from Tucker Shaw (3/4)
and John David Terry (3/4) to make it 8-6. The next two innings saw great defensive
plays by the Tigers Shaw and Jopling, teaming up for a double play and a triple
play to shut down the Cards scoring machine, 3 up 3 down in both. In their half
of those innings, the Tigers again hit the ball hard, with game-ball winner Brooks
Lucas (3/3) starting two rallies that would result in 11 runs, brining the Tiger
total to 17. Other big hits from the Tigers O came from Jack Strausbaugh (3/4)
and Denton Knox (3/3). The Cardinals regrouped in the last inning and threatened
with 5 runs created by hits from Thompson, Johnstone, Robert Matlock, Walker Falls
(2/3), and Mark McEvoy (3/3). |

In a show of offensive power the Orioles and Marlins sent 76 batters to the plate
in 75 minutes – posting 48 hits. WOW! Leading the charge for the Orioles were
Clark Kistler (4-4, 2 hr), Kristopher Sally (4-4, 4 runs), Robert Luce (3-4),
Hudson Davis (3-4), and Steven Cain (3-4) . Perfect at the plate for the Marlins
were Grant Hall (3-3, 3 runs) and Luke Nichols (3-3) and additional highlights
were H Habib (2-3) and Jack Sanders (2-3). The O’s jumped on top with 4 runs in
the top of the first only to be out scored by the Marlin’s first six batters crossing
home! The O’s would battle back with 4 more runs in the 2nd only to answered by
the Marlins 2 runs to be tied at 8 after 2 innings. Both defenses held each other
scoreless in the third. The O’s would come back to take a 13-8 lead after four
innings scoring the first five batters to the plate. The O’s defense would be
lead by a great catch by Lee Hudson. The Marlins defense would step up to a 1,2
3 to lead off the fifth and then posted 5 runs of their own to tie the score at
13 after five. It was with the O’s defense that would make two outstanding plays
to end the inning without further damage. A great throw by Steven Cain from center
field to second base and a show stopping line drive snag by Lee Hudson would end
the rally! The Marlins crowd would reward the great effort with a foot stomping
yell that could be heard in the class rooms at Bob Jones. The O’s would rally
for three runs in the top of the 6th for the winning margin. A classic GLL coaches
pitch event! Great game by both teams! Good luck to both teams for the rest of
the season. |

Athletics 12 Cardinals 11 |
The Athletics faced the Cardinals for the first time this season and both teams
had the bats going. The Cardinals jumped out to an early four run lead in the
1st with hits from Bobby Hudson, Bonner Snyder, Lucas Coan, Cannon Few, John Toohey
& James Farrish. Lucas Coan pitched a terrific 4 1/3 innings, recorded 5 strike
outs and held the undefeated A’s to just 6 runs. Peyton Kinman, Zach Cooter,
Nate Edenfield, Brooks Quartararo, Jake Dill, & Weston McDonald all generated
hits over the first 4 innings to narrow the Cardinals lead to just one run. Weston
McDonald took the mound for the A’s in the 3rd, down by 4 runs and with the task
of shutting the Cardinals bats down and trying to salvage the A’s undefeated record.
Weston had another great night on the mound, holding the Cardinals to just 3 runs
& recording five strikeouts for the night. The Cardinals continued to pull
away and were up 11 to 9 as the Athletics came to bat in the bottom of the 6th.
The Athletics managed to get 3 runs and squeak by with a 12 to 11 win over the
heavy hitting Cardinals. The defensive play of the game goes to Cardinal third
baseman Max Englebardt for making a fantastic catch on a line drive hit down the
3rd baseline with 2 runners on.

When the regular season schedules came out last month, this was one game to circle
as a “must-see:” Friday Night Lights at Timmons Park for an inevitable showdown
between two good teams led by two veteran pitchers. As expected, the bleachers
were full and the fences were lined to see a game that would live up to its billing.
In the end, the Cardinals prevailed over the A’s by a score of 4-0.
GAME RECAP/SUMMARY:
• Davis Callaham opened the pitching for the A’s with two solid innings, during
which the Cards worked hard to push home 3 runs. Mattox Snow singled and scored
for the Cards in the first, while Devin Ciufo and Matthew Davis both doubled and
scored in the second.
• A’s ace Glenn Batson took the ball to start the 3rd, and basically shut the
Cards offense down from that point forward. Mixing pure gas with wicked off-speed
stuff, Batson struck out 8 batters and allowed only one more Cards runner to cross
the plate.
• Cards starting pitcher Will Robertson matched Batson’s brilliance, managing
somehow to squeeze 5 full innings out of only 60 pitches. With a reliable defense
backing him up, Robertson shut the A's out, allowing 2 hits (singles by Bryan
Poe and Mason Simmons), recording 10 strike-outs and 0 walks. Pressure-immune
Brooks Brady then closed the game for the Cards by pitching a scoreless 6th inning
to record his third straight save.
These teams will meet again at 3:30 PM, Saturday, April 28. Be sure to circle
your calendars!
Winning Pitcher: Will Robertson - 60 pitches; Save: Brooks Brady - 28 pitches;
Opposing Pitchers: Davis Callaham - 35 pitches; Glenn Batson - 56 pitches

The Athletics and the Cardinals met in this early Saturday morning opener, overcoming
locked gates and soggy baseballs to play a spirited game. With the heavy dew,
balls to the outfield died quickly, with the pitchers trying to find the "dry
spot" on the ball to deliver a hittable pitch! The home-standing A's defense opened
strong, holding the Cards to single runs in the 1st and 2nd, while batting 10
batters in the 1st to post a 6-2 lead after two. The Cardinals roared back in
the 3rd, with 5 big runs behind singles by second-sacker Marshall Gilmer (2 for
3, 2 runs) and first-baseman Beau Thompson (3 for 3, 2 runs), followed by long
balls by pitcher Will Williamson (1 for 3, 1 run) and SS Reid Johnstone (3 for
3, 2 runs) and hits by Mark McEvoy (1 for 3) and Robert Murdoch (2 for 3, 1 run).
The Cards stingy defense, anchored by three great catches by pitcher Will Williamson
and the hustle of AJ Quartararo, Parker Wingare, Thomas Williams and Matthew Bethea,
limited the A's to a single run in the bottom of the inning to make it a tight
7-6 game. With the field (and baseballs!) finally drying out, the A's rallied
in the 4th with John Price (2 for 3, 1 run), Jennings Huskey (1 for 3, 1 run),
and speedster Andres Garcia (2 for 3, 2 runs) setting the table for the big bats
of Thomas Whatley (2 for 3, 2 runs), Tom Freeland (3 for 3, 3 runs, 2 triples)
and "Birthday Boy" Edward Pollock (2 for 3, 2 runs, game ball for his defense
around 2nd!). The A's defense then tightened, holding the Cards to 3 runs in the
last two innings and hanging on for a 14-9 win, despite the big bats of the Cards
"tough trio" of Thompson, Williamson, and Johnstone, and a clutch RBI-hit by Walker
Falls (1 for 3, 1 run). Congratulations to both teams on a well-played game! |

On a beautiful Saturday morning at Timmons, the Orioles and Giants played in
the second game of the day. The visiting O’s were able to post a three run lead
with base hits by Hudson “birthday boy” Davis (3-4), Kristopher Sally (4-4), and
Clark Kistler (4-4, 2-3B & HR). The giants would battle back with one run
in the 1st and 2nd and 3 runs in the third to take a 5-3 lead after 3 innings.
The Giants bats were lead by Will Phillips (2-2, 3B), Dixon Douglas (2-2), Liam
Easley (2-2) and Jeffrey Johnson (1-2, 1HR). The O’s defense would tighten up
and not allow another run lead by 11 put outs by Hudson Davis at first and 7 assist
by Pitcher William Luce. Both were awarded defensive player of the game. Kristopher
Sally-Big Bat and Steven Cain-Hustle. Great effort by both teams! Good luck to
both teams for the rest of the season. |

It was a beautiful day for a game at Timmons park. The Orioles came out with
their bats HOT! Scoring 5 runs in the first inning with hits from Matthew Carter,
Jay Davis, Ashe Macfie, Carter Powell, and Robert Mace. The Orioles held the
Marlins 5-0 for three innings. In the 4th inning, the Marllins bats woke up with
hits from Ian Miller, Bryce Reeves, Rudy Johnstone, Walker Carroll and John Krall.
The score remained 5 to 4 until the 6th inning. The Marlins held the Orioles,
with 3 up and 3 down. It was the bottom of the 6th and it was the Marlins' last
chance to win the game! T here were two runners on base (Mitchell Bryant and Walker
Carroll) and one out. Will Carlon hit the ball hard into left field, bringing
in Mitchell for the tying run. Walker Carroll is tagged out by catcher Ashe Macfie in
collision at home in a tough play by Ashe getting the second out. Will Carlon
gets caught in a pickle between 3rd and home... he scores the winning run. It
was a great game by both teams! |

The Tigers and the Cubs squared off Saturday on a beautiful day at Timmons Park.
The visiting Tigers came to bat in the top of the 1st facing hard throwing Justin
Bailey and were able to get 1 run across the plate to draw 1st blood. Wilson Strausbaugh
then went to the mound for the Tigers and gave up 2 runs before calmly settling
in for a great exhibition of pitching for 4 innings. In the bottom of the 1st
Justin Bailey and Harrison Stall scored for the Cubs with Aubrie Lauderdale holding
Bailey to a single on a long ball to center field. In the top of the 2nd the Tigers
were held scoreless with good defensive plays by Patrick Henry and Elliott Gilmer
at SS and 1B. In the top of the 3rd with the Cubs leading 3-1, LF-Tudor Malik
got things started reaching base and scoring to help contribute to the Tigers
putting 4 runs across the plate to take a 5-3 lead with the Cubs coming to the
plate. The Cubs then got key hits from Krae Baumgartner and Alex Mahaffey to help
the Cubs go back up 6-5 in this see-saw battle. The Defense of 2B-Thomas Lister,
RF-Worth Gentry, and LF-Will Taylor did a great job of helping keep the Cubs off
base keeping the scoring damage to a minimum. The bats for the Tigers then came
to life with a triple by 1B -Wes Reeves and SS-Carson Spiers and singles by RF-Jack
McEvoy, C-Chase Poplin, and CF-Aubrie Lauderdale reaching base adding another
4 runs which could have been more if not for a great catch by Jonas Mullins robbing
3B-Neal Satterfield of additional RBI runs on a deep fly ball to left field. Hard
throwing Carson Spiers then took over for the Tigers and heated it up holding
the Cubs scoreless through the last two innings to seal up the win for the Tigers
12-6. This was a great back and forth battle for both Teams. Good luck to the
Cubs the rest of the season. The Tigers will face the undefeated A’s Tuesday evening.

On an unseasonably warm Saturday at Timmons Park, the Tigers and Cubs got together
for a rumble in the jungle. Cubs ace Robert Borowicz was pulled after only five
pitches due to a strained leg muscle. A host of Cub relievers including Michael
Spiers, Jaime Connor, Mac Ellison, Jack Cottingham, and Ash Harward saw action
from the mound. The Tigers countered with starter Will Thomas who went three innings
and allowed only two runs (3 Ks). Rob Frasher pitched two innings of relief with
2 Ks, relying on great defense behind him to retire the side. Offensively for
the Cubs, Mac Ellison (3 1B), Michael Spiers (2 1B), Jaime Connor (2B and 1B),
and Jordan Ford (2B) hit the ball well. The Tigers were led by Ashton Hinton (3
1B), Will Thomas (2 2B), Evan Smith (2B and 1B), and Rob Frasher (2 1B). In the
