Meeting for their second game in three days, the hot-hitting Tigers again came
out scorching against the A's with the first five Tigers all getting hits and
scoring before the A's could catch their breath. Jack Jopling's triple (2 for
2, 1 run) plated Denton Knox and three batters later, speedy Matthew Ninneman
launched a triple of his own, chasing home John David Terry and Tucker Shaw (2
for 2, 1 run). The tough-as-nails A's, which have survived all season with their
solid defense, then slammed the door, permitting only one more run the rest of
the game. Third-sacker Jennings Huskey (1 for 2, 3 RBIs, game ball) sparked the
defensive comeback with a long rocket-throw to 1st base to nail a runner, limiting
the 1st inning damage to a 5-0 Tiger lead. The A's leadoff batters then topped
the Tigers' big 1st inning start, with their first six batters all getting hits
and scoring, led by lead-off men Read Perkins (2 for 3, 2 runs) and Thomas Whatley
(3 for 3, 2 doubles, 3 runs), a 2-RBI hit by Sam Macfie (3 for 3, double, triple,
5 RBIs) and doubles by Huskey and Edward Pollock. The Tigers scrambled back to
a 6-6 tie in the top of the 2nd with Jopling driving home Wilson Smith (1 for
2,1 run) before 1st baseman Sam Macfie killed the Tigers' rally with a scoop and
unassisted tag-out on a laser-like grounder down the line by Terry. The A's offensive
outburst then continued with 5 runs in the 2nd and 8 more in the 3rd, sparked
by a triple to the fence by Macfie, just missing a "bat-bag" homer by inches,
and a hustle-homer by lightning-fast Andres Garcia (2 for 2, HR, 2 runs). Fan
favorite Julian Espada (1 for 2, RBI, 1 run) continued his hot-hitting from Saturday,
driving home a run and scoring on a Tom Freeland (2 for 3, 2 RBI) double. Thomas
Slade (2 for 2,RBI, 1 run) maintained his long hitting streak with a double while
base-running demon John Price (great defense, game ball) drilled a 3rd inning
2-RBI double and raced home on Garcia's homer. The A's defense then nailed down
a 19-6 win with a 3-up/3-down top-of-the 4th, highlighted by great put-out throws
to 1st by pitcher Freeland and second-baseman Whatley. Congratulations on two
exciting games from Saturday to Monday and good luck to both teams with the season
wrapping up and the playoff tournament kicking off soon! |

Stellar Pitching by Rudy Johnstone allowed only a handful of hits, no runs and
had 6 so. Johnstone also was 3-3 and had another grand slam. Bryce Reeves also
pitched the 4th and had 1 strikeout and faced 3 batters. The Cards run came in
the 4th with Lucas Coan scoring after a nice hit to left. The Marlins bats were
hot with 9 of 11 players scoring at least once. Also 3-3 on the night was Mitchell
Bryant who also had a great night at catcher. The Marlins had the ball bouncing
their way most of the night. Good Luck Cards. Awesome job Marlins. |

Perfect weather and a full moon greeted the Tigers and Orioles at Timmons Park
in a late season match-up Monday night. Tigers ace Evan Smith had a strong outing
allowing only two hits in 4 complete innings (6 Ks). Andrew Carter (5 Ks) and
Jake Mace (1 K) pitched well for the visiting Orioles. Defensively for the Orioles,
short stop Brandon Hood made a great play with the bases loaded in the 2nd to
complete a 5-2 put out. Mackenzie Carter, Asheton Hinton, and Enrique Cardoza
made great defensive plays for the Tigers. Andrew Carter and Jake Mace got big
hits for the Orioles. Will Thomas, Mackenzie Carter, Evan Smith, Enrique Cardoza,
Allston Achille, Asheton Hinton, and James Quattlebaum hit the ball hard for the
Tigers. Both teams showed great sportsmanship in true GLL fashion. The Orioles
play the Marlins on Saturday and will get a rematch with the Tigers next Monday. |

The Cardinals and Giants met for the second time this spring on Tuesday afternoon.
The visiting Cardinals came out and posted four runs in the 1st behind AJ Quartararo
(3/4, 3runs), Beau Thompson (4/4, 4 runs), and Walker Falls (4/4, 4 runs). The
Giants answered with solid hits from Alex Brown (3/3, 2 runs) and Gill Sizer (1/2,
1 run, HR). The highlight of the game for the Cardinals came in the second with
Thomas Williams (2/4, HR, 2B) smashing a line drive to left center for his first
home run of the season, scoring two runs. The Giants defense then stepped up and
got through the top of the Cardinals order allowing only one additional run. The
Cardinals defense, not to be out done, manage to hold the Giants to 6 runs over
the remaining four innings. Will Phillps (2/2, 2 runs),Wilson Smith (2/2, 2runs)
and Dixon Douglas (1/3, 1 run, 3B) kept things going at the plate for the Giants.
M arshall Gilmer (4/4, 4runs), Mark McEvoy (3/4, 3runs), and Parker Wingate (4/4,
4runs) were all big contributors as the Cardinals had some of their best hitting
of the season. A great game by both clubs. |

A much closer game than the score indicates with strong pitching by both relief
pitchers, Elliott Gilmer (Cubs)and John Bowman (Giants). I would like to also
mention a great play at catcher for both teams, Will Chandler (Cubs) and Drennan
Quattlebaum (Giants), both who have done an excellent job all season. The difference
in the game was the bats for the Giants and a great bunt by Ben Smith. Good Luck
to both teams as we prepare for the tournament. |

In what starterd out as a seesaw battle turned into a tight nail biter in the
final innings with the homefield Cubs edging the visiting Marlins. This game featured
a lot of offense from both teams with everyone in the line-ups contibuting. Marshall
Merline, Daniel Mullinax and John Parke all scored for the Marlins in the first
on back to back doubles by Parke and Scottie Dickey. Starting pitcher, Mac Ellison,
limited the damage to three runs in the first by stranding 3 runners and giving
the Cubs some life coming to bat. The Cubs plated their first four batters(Keller,
Ellison, Spiers and Connor) of their own in the bottom of the first as they took
advantage of 2 walks, 2 hit batters, a double by Jaime Connor and a huge 2 out,
2 rbi hit by Rich Milligan. The fireworks kept exploding in the top of the 2nd
for the Marlins with Merline, Mullinax and Parke all scoring again along with
Ramse y Stephenson. Reliever Scottie Dickey kept the Cubs scorless in the 2nd
and the Marlins added two more in the third with the pesty Merline scoring again
after a towering double to left and Parke also scored again. Jack Cottingham singled
and scored for the Cubs in the bottom of the third and Hayden Mansure walked and
scored to cut into the Marlin lead. Relievers, Michael Spiers and Jordan Ford
managed to keep the Marlins scoreless in the 4th and 5th to set the stage for
the final inning drama. Trailing by two going into the bottom of the 5th with
time expired, Garrett Keller leadoff with a ripped triple to right and scored
on an Ellison rbi ground out. Spiers squirted a ball down the first base line
and ended up on 3rd eventually scoring the tieing run on a passed ball. With the
bases empty and one out, clean-up hitter, Jaime Connor, roped another triple to
right to put the winning run at third. The Marlins strategy to intentionally walk
the bases loaded appeared to b e working after they got a force out at home on
a hard ground ball to short but two pitches later, Jordan Ford was able to race
home safely on a passed ball just beating the tag of catcher, John Parke. Great
offense by both teams, decent defense and pitching, and strong determination by
both teams proved to be an entertaining night at Timmons. |

Cardinals 10 Giants 0 |
With an impressive victory over an excellent Giants team Thursday night, the
Cardinals improved their record to 9-0 and clinched the Majors division Regular
Season Championship.
GAME NOTES:
* The game started out looking like a pitchers duel between veteran hurlers Will
Robertson (W, 8 K, 2 HA, 0 walks, 0 runs allowed) and Christopher Reese (6 K),
with neither team scoring in the opening frame. Strong defensive plays by Cardinals
center fielder Devon Ciufo, Cards catcher Dixon Collins, and Giants shortstop
Hal Stephenson helped keep the early-inning scoring to a minimum.
* Ultimately, the bottom half of the Cards batting order provided the necessary
spark to get the Redbird's sticks rocking. Scorching-hot hitter Matthew Davis
(3-4, 3 RBI, run) started things off in the second with a single that was quickly
followed by base hits from Preston Hall (1-1, 2 BB) and Taylor Carsten (single,
2 RBI). The rest of the Cards then decided to join in on the fun: Will Robertson
went 3-3 and scored 4 runs; Dixon Collins went 2-4 with a run; and Brooks Brady
(single, 2 runs), Mattox Snow (single, BB, RBI, 2 runs), Philip Bryant (RBI) and
Tom Kent (single, run) all contributed to the cause. Barrett Maddox and Kevin
Victory recorded the Giants’ base hits.
* The Giants do not have to wait long for a chance to get their revenge, as the
two teams square off once again this week. |

In a classic battle between the division leaders, the Orioles and A’s battled
tooth and nail to a 10-10 tie in seven innings. The excitement kept building throughout
the entire contest and can be summed up in a great father-son discussion following
the game between Coach Luce and his son William. William made a diving catch in
foul territory in the bottom of the sixth to keep the A’s from scoring the winning
run. After being asked by Dad, "Did you enjoy that game?" ….William responded…."Dad,
it was so loud out there!" "What do you mean?" … "When I caught that ball
all I could hear was screaming mammas!!!!" William ,you had a third of it right…it
was a bunch of screaming moms, dads and coaches! Great job by both teams! Just
to give a flavor of how close this game was…both teams scored in 4 innings, each
team held the other team scoreless in 3 innings, each team sent 39 batters to
the plate and reach team recorded 23 hits, each team had 6 outs/assists by the
pitcher (Freeland/Luce), 4 outs/assists at second (Pollock/Hudson), 4 outs by
the SS (Turrentine/Sally) and 6 putouts at first (Macfie/Davis). You can’t leave
out the great job of the third basemen for both teams knocking down balls to stop
runners from advancing…Whatley for the A’s and Luce for the O’s. WOW!!! It
doesn’t get much closer than that! The O’s runs would come from Robert Luce
(4-4, 2R), Hudson Davis (3-4, 1R), William Luce (3-4, 2R), Lee Hudson (3-4, 2R),
Kristopher Sally (3-4, 2R) and Steven Cain (3-4, 1R), Michael Wolf (3-4), Banks
Gaines (2-4), Miles Watson and Shaler Smith would make great contact. The A’s
runs would come Read Perkins (4-4, 1R), Thomas Whatley (3-4), Edward Pollock (2-3,
2R), Thomas Slade (2-3, 1R), Will Turrentine (3-3, 2R), Austin McCalla (2-3),
John Price (2-3), Andres Garcia (1-3, 1R), Jennings Huskey (1-3, 1R), Tom Freeland
(1-3, 1R), Sam Macfie (2-4, 1R) and Julian Espada. A’s game ball winners were
Andres Garcia for his clutch hitting and lightning-fast baserunning, Read Perkins
for going 4-4, stopping some hard hit balls at second and scoring the tying run
in the bottom of the seventh on a pop up to the SS, and to third base coach Jeff
Macfie for the great coaching on the pop-up and the runner tagging up! Orioles
award winners were Hudson Davis-Hustle, Miles Watson-Defense, William Luce- Big
Bat, and Robert Luce-Tough man. Robert was drilled in the face by a ball in the
sixth inning and rallied to return to his spot in the seventh! |

A cool damp night was the site at Timmons field. A game with everything on the
line for two outstanding teams with a lot of talent on both sides. Like a heavyweight
fight the two teams through punches until the 5th round when the Marlins came
with a knockout punch. The Tigers struck 1st with a run by Neal Satterfield who
had a triple on a bomb to right center. The Tigers then added 2 more runs in the
3rd with Aubrie Lauderdale and Worth Gentry scoring on hits by Chase Poplin and
Wes Reeves, making the 3-0 Tigers. The Marlins then couterpunched with 4 runs
in the bottom of 3rd sending 8 batters to the plate. Will Carlon lead it off with
a single up the middle. The Marlins the put the bunt and steal on with Michael
Redman up at bat. He laid down a perfect bunt up the 3rd base line about 10 feet
in front of the plate and had an infield hit and moving the runner. The Tigers
with great pitching from Wilson Strausbaugh(8 so no walks) struck out the next
2 batters. So it was left up to Ian Miller(3-3) to get the job done with 2 outs.
Miller delivered a hard hit ball that scored one run. Then Bryce Reeves hit a
shot up the middle to score another and Rudy Johnstone(3-3)hit a shot to left
to score Miller and Reeves making the score 4-3 Marlins. Reeves then shut down
the Tigers with a 1-2-3 inning in the 4th and Strausbaugh held the Malrins in
check in the bottom of 4th. Johnstone came in relief for Reeves who reached his
limit and shut down the Tigers in the 5th with 3 strikeouts. The Tigers needing
some breathing room scored 5 in the 5th and sent 8 batters to the plate. Charlie
Fink got on base 1st with a walk followed by another shot by Miller to center
field. Reeves and Johnstone followed with both having dbls. Walker Carroll then
walked and scored when Mitchell Bryant hit a hard ball to center scoring 2 more
runs. The Marlins took the lead up to 6 runs going into the last chance 6th for
the Tigers. Johnstone got the Tigers 3 up 3 down to end the game and help win
the Marlins the regular season championship. Classic game that will go down in
the books as an all time great in the minors division. Good Luck in the Tourney
Tigers and Great Job MARLINS!

A fast paced, very well pitched ballgame by both teams had the Cubs pull out
their second straight one run victory. The Cubs jumped out to a quick 2 run lead
in the top of the first when Garrett Keller and Michael Spiers scored on a passed
ball after Keller had walked and Spiers doubled. Mac Ellison took the mound for
the Cubs and kept the A's off balance and scoreless through 3 innings. Starting
pitcher, Davis Callaham, settled in for a strong 2nd inning for the A's, striking
out the side. Glenn Batson relieved Callaham to start the 3rd and showed his dominating
stuff recording nine strike outs in four innings of work. In the fourth the A's
were able to knot the game at two when Morgan Kaufman and Martin Pazdan scored.
In the fifth, the Cubs scored the go ahead run on a 2 out double by Keller and
an rbi single by Ellison. Getting close to his pitch limit, Ellison came back
out for the bottom fifth and made quick work of the A's and finished the night
with six stikeouts. Jordan Ford relieved Ellison in the sixth and kept the A's
off the scoreboard to record the save. Both teams made some great defensive plays
highlighted by an up the middle, back handed grab by Robert Borowicz for the Cubs
and a running catch in center by Bryan Poe of the A's. Good luck to both teams
with one week to go in the regular season. |
