On a crisp Monday afternoon at Timmons Field, the visiting Cubs showed up to
face the Tigers for the 2nd time this season. The Cubs were looking to breakout
their bats that had been on vacation since the mid-season break. The Cubs started
out hot in the 1st inning scoring 4 runs with big hits by Merritt Grace, Bradley
Hughes, Conrad Pentaleri and Matthew Mahaffey. The Tigers would answer with 4
runs of their own in the bottom of the 1st with big hits by Jack Jopling, Tucker
Shaw, Matt Ninneman and John David Terry. The Cubs would rally again in the top
of the 2nd sending 10 batters to the plate and scoring 7 runs with key hits by
Dolan Foster, Mills Chastain and Tiernan Armstrong. Again, the Tigers would answer,
this time with a 5 run rally that was started by Christoper Riley. After 2 innings
the Cubs led 11 to 9. In the top of the 3rd, the Cubs would again send 10 batters
to the plate scoring 7 runs, featuring a triple by Tiernan Armstrong and big hits
by Zachary Idris, Fletcher Mazzola, Eric Rolfe and Austin Hall. The 10th batter
was Matthew Mahaffey who sent a deep fly ball into left field scoring Merritt
Grace all the way from 1st base. In the bottom of the 3rd the Cubs defense, led
by Conrad Pentaleri and Matthew Mahaffey would shut down the Tigers bats, leaving
the Tigers scoreless in the bottom of the 3rd. After 3 innings, Cubs led 18 to
9. In the top of the 4th, the Cubs would rally again to score 5 runs with big
hits by Drew Cunningham and Conrad Pentaleri. In the bottom of the 4th, the Tigers
bats would come alive again scoring 4 runs, 3 of which were driven in on a home
run hit to the fence by Jack Strausbaugh. Congratulations to Jack Strausbaugh
on getting into the GLL Home Run Club. Congratulations to the Cubs on their 23
to 13 win over the Tigers. |

The Home team Athletics arrived at Timmons Monday night to play the visiting
Giants for the second time this spring. This was a well-played, fast paced game
that kept the fans on the edge of their seats until the last out was made. The
Athletics won 3 to 2 and increased their overall league standing to 7 wins &
4 losses. Stellar pitching by John Bowman held the Athletics to just 2 runs in
five innings & recorded 4 KO’s before being relieved by Will Wynkoop. Will
also had a strong showing on the mound and shut the Athletics down with some great
defensive help from the Giants infield. Key hits from Peyton Kinman, Weston McDonald,
Zach Cooter, Jake Dill and Michael Stone helped generate the runs for the Athletics.
Capers Foster, Jake Dill, & Zach Cooter crossed home plate to give the Athletics
their three winning runs. The Giants threatened to score several times with key
hits from Cleve Wilson, Beale Wood, Carter Jay, Will Wynkoop and Hank Nichols.
Hank & John each scored to give the Giants their two runs in what could be
called the defensive game of the week. Good luck to the Giants in the tournament. |

A demolition derby in the parking lot was not enough to pull the fans away from
the Tigers vs. Orioles game at Timmons Park Monday night (our thoughts are with
the Swenson family, as well as umpire Ken Hart and his insurance company during
this difficult time). When the game resumed, the Tigers relied on ace Evan Smith
who delivered once again with 4 innings of shutout pitching (7 Ks). Allston Achille
pitched well in relief, his first appearance on the mound this year (2 innings,
3 Ks). The Orioles received solid pitching from Brandon Hood (2 innings, 3 Ks),
Andrew Carter (2 innings, 3 Ks), and Benton Stilwell (2 innings, 1 K). Rob Frasher
had several rally killing stabs at short stop and second base for the Tigers.
Will Thomas, Asheton Hinton, and Sam Jones also made great defensive plays for
the Tigers. Peter Osteen, Andrew Carter, and Brandon Hood were awesome in the
field for the Orioles. Offensively for the Orioles, Jake Mace went 2-3 (1 run
scored) and Andrew Carter went 2-4 (1 run scored). The Tigers were led by Will
Thomas (3-4 with a 3B, 2B and 1B). Others contributing multiple hits for the Tigers
were Rob Frasher, Evan Smith, Sam Jones, and Allston Achille. The Orioles will
be back in action on Wednesday vs. the Marlins and will close their regular season
on Thursday vs. the A's. The Tigers close their regular season on Saturday vs.
the A's. Good luck to both teams for the rest of the season. |

well, both teams came into the game w/ winning streaks and solid games behind
them; which, of course, only meant things had to change, and that they did. it
was 5 innings of baseball and every player left the park w/ a little bit of good
and a wee bit more ugly in their bags. 32 runs in 5 inn's is not the kind of baseball
the author admires, but for the fans and scorekeeeper, it was fun. good luck cardinals |

The battle of the birds resumed Tuesday with the Cardinals challenging the Orioles
in the Card's regular season finale. Starting pitchers Lucas Coan for the Red
Birds and Matthew Carter for the O's dominated early. Coan allowed only 4 runs
through 3 innings while Carter shut out the Cards through 3, aided by strong defensive
plays by Carter Powell, Roberts Mace and catcher Ashe Macfie. Carter scored
in the 1st after hitting a triple and being chased home on hits by Ashe Macfie
and Jay Davis. The Orioles broke a tight game open in the 3rd on consecutive hits
by Robert Mace, Carter and Davis and some smart baserunning to plate 3 runs and
post a 4-0 lead. The Cards struck back in the the 4th behind John Toohey's double
and walks to brothers James and Matthew Farish and Wilson Nickles, around a gritty
HBP on toughman Max Englebardt. Ace Reliever Connor Whitlock came in to put
out the fire for the O's in the 4th, then shutting out the Cards in the top of
the 5th. The O's "golden glove" 2nd baseman Carter Powell saved sure runs by
the Cards by snaring not one but two rocket-line drives, earning the O's game
ball. The Orioles
tacked on 2 insurance runs in the bottom of the 4th behind Andrew Vail's leadoff
single and more daring baserunning by Carter Powell, Rhett Baker, Robert Mace
and Carter. Card's pticher Cannon Few bounced back strong to leave the bases
loaded, coaxing a put-out at third base against the O's eight batter. The O's
would then add two more runs in the 5th, leaving the bases loaded as time ran
out and securing a hard-fought 8-3 win in a well-played game by both teams.
Good luck to the Cards in the playoffs and good luck to the Orioles as they close
out their season Friday against the 1st place Marlins! |

Facing one another for the first time this season, the Cardinals and Marlins
basically battled to a draw for the first 3 innings. The Cardinals were then able
to pour on 7 runs in the final 2 frames to get the win.
GAME NOTES:
• Brooks Brady of the Cardinals put on an impressive performance in his debut
as a Major League starting pitcher. Throwing crisp, accurate pitches and getting
timely help from his teammates, Brady saw only 2 runs cross the plate during his
4 1/3-inning effort. Reliever Dixon Collins then entered the game for his first
trip to the hill as a major leaguer, and in a workmanlike manner recorded the
save .
• The Cardinals continued to show their team depth offensively, putting the ball
in play on nearly every plate appearance. The statistical leaders for the Cards
were Will Robertson, who singled, doubled, tripled, scored two runs and delivered
2 RBI’s; and Mattox Snow, who had 3 base hits (including a roped triple to the
fence), a walk, three runs, and 3 RBI’s. Dixon Collins, Devon Ciufo, and Matthew
Davis all contributed RBI base hits; and Tom Kent, Philip Bryant, and Brady added
runs.
• Marlins starter Scottie Dickey gave a gritty pitching performance. The Marlins
played solid defense, with standout performances by infielders Marshall Merline,
Ramsey Stephenson and John Parke. The hitting leaders for the Marlins included
Merline, Parke, Stephenson, Daniel Mullinax, Andrew Slade, and Dell Wilkerson.
• These two teams will meet again early Saturday morning in what will be both
teams’ regular season finale. |

This was a fun, well-played game that could have gone either way, but the Cardinals
were able to escape Timmons Park with a 7-5 victory over the Giants Wednesday
night.
GAME NOTES:
• With their coaches carefully watching pitch counts in a busy final week, the
Cards pitching combination of Mattox Snow-Will Robertson-Philip Bryant was effectively
countered by the Giants combination of Barrett Maddox-Christopher Reese-Hal Stephenson.
The outcome would have to depend on the position play and the sticks. • The Giants
got solid offensive production up and down their order. Hal Stephenson showed
once again why he is one of the league’s toughest outs, reaching base in all four
of his plate appearances. Reese hit a moonshot double to straightaway center.
Thomas Caine had two hits, including a deep double to left that dropped just short
of the fence. Adam Miller and Nolan Bagnal had a pair of hard singles apiece,
and Kevin Victory added a single. The Cardinals answered with 9 base hits of their
own, led by scorched doubles off the bats of Dixon Collins, Taylor Carsten (2-3),
Brooks Brady and Philip Bryant, a “nearly out” triple by Snow, and hard base knocks
by Robertson and Matthew Davis.
• Both teams made some brilliant defensive plays, and both also kicked the ball
around a few times as well. Big-play glove recognition goes to Giant outfielders
Bagnal and Burgess, Giant infielders Reese and Barrett Mattox , and Giant catcher
Victory; and for the Cards, 1st baseman Snow and 1st baseman/catcher Collins,
and 2nd baseman Brady, who ended the game with a nearly impossible stop/assist
on a laser shot by Will Myers. |

The Giants have finally tasted victory and the taste is oh so sweet. Both teams
came to the park on Thursday determined to get some momentum going for the tournament.
The Cubs struck first, with two runs in the first lead by Bradley Hughes who plated
Austin Hall and Merrit Grace with a timely single. In the second, the Giants would
not go quietly scoring three runs on hits by Trey Key, Hunter Balck, and Liam
Easley. In the the third, the Cubs would roar back scoring five runs on seven
hits. In the top of the fourth, the Giants would flex all the muscle they could
summons scoring six runs on seven hits including a two run triple by Dixon Douglas.

The Athletics & Cubs played their final game of the regular season last night.
Both teams played great defensive baseball and the CUBS were in this one all the
way to the end. The defensive player of the game was Cubs shortstop Justin Bailey.
Justin fielded several hard hit balls at short and turned a double play to shut
the Athletics down with bases loaded. The CUBS bats have been hot all season and
remain the most physical & aggressive base running team in the minors division.
Those Cubs getting hits at the plate include Elliot Gilmer, Krae Baumgardner,
Justin Bailey, Will Chandler, Patrick Henry & Jonas Mullins. Alex Mahaffey
took the mound for the Cubs and went three innings before being relieved by Harrison
Stall & Pierce Fox. The Athletics generated hits from Jake Dill, Michael Stone,
Nate Edenfield, Brooks Quartararo, Reese Wilson, Peyton Kinman & Weston McDonald.
This win was the result of a team effort and those runners crossing home plate
included, Bruce Stevenson, Michael Stone, Capers Foster & Reese Wilson. Zach
Cooter pitched another stellar game, recorded six strike outs for the night and
was relieved by Weston McDonald in the fifth to help his team win 12 to 4 over
the slugging CUBS & end the season with eight wins & four losses. Good
luck to the CUBS in the tournament. |

The battle of vowels was won by the A's after being stifled most of the game
by great defense by the O's and timely pop outs manufactured by pitcher Jake Mace.
The O's got on the board first after a seeing eye double by Peter Osteen scored
Brandon Hood from second base. The A's made their move in the 4th inning when
Martin Pazden reached first after being hit a pitch, followed by a single by Noah
Lindsey and walk to Matthew Carter, loading the bases. Bryan Poe then delivered
what proved to be the game winner hitting a two out double up the middle, scoring
Pazden and Lindsey. Glenn Batson then wowed the crowd with a mammoth 3 run shot
over the left field fence for his 3rd home run of the year providing some insurance
runs. The game was highlighted by a gusty pitching performace by Jake Mace (4
K's) making his first pitching start of the year and Glenn Batson who also went
the distance for the A's, finishing the game with 15 K's. Also contributing offensively
for the A's were Wallace Hendricks (double, Single) and Davis Callaham (Double). |

In a classic GLL CP game, the Tigers and Orioles would battle in a 19-16 offensive
thriller!! The teams would send a combined 83 batters to the plate, record 49
hits, catch 16 fly balls and score 35 runs with every player from both teams crossing
the plate (WOW)! Now that was a fun game to watch. Jack Jopling (Tigers 2-4, 2R)
and Robert Luce (Orioles 5-5, 3R) would both hit monster HRs for their teams!
Jopling a solo shot in the sixth and Luce a 3 run in the 2nd and a GRAND SLAM
in the 3rd. Tigers Highlights…. Ninneman, Riley and Terry would all score 2+ runs.
Denton Knox would make a show stopping catch at second base. Tucker Shaw would
catch 4 pop ups at pitcher. Sam Jones would make multiple outs at the short fielder
spot! Orioles Highlights…. W Luce, L Hudson, Cain, Wolf and Gaines would score
2+ runs. Kristopher Sally would make three outs from his SS spot. Stephen Cain
would make a great catch at short field. The O’s play of the day came on ball
hit to Pitcher William Luce as he threw out the runner at first and Hudson Davis
would return the ball to home as Luce covered to record a 1-3-1 double play! Orioles
award winners were the entire team as they celebrated the regular season championship!

The Cardinals completed an improbable perfect run through the regular season
schedule with a hard earned come-from-behind victory over the Marlins.
GAME RECAP AND NOTES:
• After the first two innings, the Marlins boasted a 4-1 lead, with a run apiece
scored by Marshall Merline (2-3, double), John Parke, Scottie Dickey, and Andrew
Slade. The Cardinals responded with four runs in the third: Mattox Snow delivered
a timely and hard hit to score Devon Ciufo; Dixon Collins’ followed with a game-changing
2-RBI triple to score Will Robertson; then Matthew Davis drove Collins home with
a deep sacrifice fly. Unfazed, the Marlins posted two more runs of their own
(Grayson Stafford and Ramsey Stephenson) in the bottom of the third to take a
6-5 lead, a key hit being delivered by Seth Lauderdale.
• Seeing their unblemished record in jeopardy, the Cardinals rose to the challenge
in the fourth. Brooks Brady singled. Robertson then slammed the Greenville Ear,
Nose & Throat banner on the fly for a standing double. Next up, Mattox Snow
pounded one that looked like an instant replay of Robertson’s previous shot, driving
in the two base-runners. Dixon Collins put on the finishing touches with a ripped
single for his third RBI of the game.
• The Cards would go on to add 4 insurance runs in the 5th (final) inning. Robertson’s
sharp and steady pitching and some stingy defense led by right fielder Preston
Hall kept the Marlins sticks at bay in the final two innings.
• The loss notwithstanding, "Merline's Marlins" deserve credit for taking the
Cards to the mat. Their defense was solid, with third baseman Stafford, shortstop
Dickey, 2nd baseman Merline, and right fielder Nat Murray providing some of the
highlights. |

The Tigers and A's got together Saturday in the final regular season game in
the Majors division. Threatening skies and wet playing conditions kept the bats
silent throughout most of the game. On the mound for the Tigers, Sam Jones pitched
4 2/3 innings with 7Ks. In relief, Evan Smith pitched 2 1/3 innings with 6 Ks.
Starting for the A's, Davis Callaham pitched 3 complete innings with 5 Ks allowing
only 1 run. The A's used a bevy of relief pitchers including Wallace Hendricks,
Mason Simmons, Bryan Poe, Noah Lindsey, and Morgan Kaufman. After 6 innings, the
score was knotted at 3. In the extra frame, the Tigers bats came alive resulting
in 7 runs. Not willing to concede defeat, the A's hit the ball hard and scored
2 runs in the bottom of the 7th before Evan Smith retired the side with 2 men
on base. The game was much closer than the final score would indicate. Offensively
for the Tigers, Evan Smith was on fire going 4 for 5 with 2 2B and 2 3B. Contributing
multiple hits were Enrique Cardoza (3 for 4, 3 1B), Asheton Hinton (2 for 3, 2

recorded big hit doubles. The A's were led by Moore Lockman (2 for 3, 2 1B). Also
