Mark Anthony has been umpiring with Greenville Little League for three years now after being
recommended and "recruited" by long-time GLL coach Tom Reeves when we had to expand
our umpire staff to handle games at both Butler Springs and Timmons. Mark works
with Tom at Universal Packaging and brings a very business-like and professional
approach to the baseball diamond. While maybe not as vocal and animated as some of his GLL umpire crew-mates (though we all enjoy Jonathan's no-mistake-about-it
"Strike!" call and Rex's "stand-up comedy!), Mark is very precise and workman-like in the way he handles a game and has
earned the respect of all the coaches and players. He takes the time to get it
right and to explain situations to players and coaches when necessary.
Mark's concern, compassion and support of our GLL kids are very apparent in the
way he approaches his umpring duties. Plus, even when he is not working games
on the field, he supports our Greenville Little League teams by coming out as
a spectator when our All-Star teams take the field across the county in District Playoff
games and can be counted out to help out on Evaluation Days to start the season and
to support GLL at our "GLL Night at the Greenville Drive" games.
With his rather classic and "historic"
name - Mark Anthony - we have been tempted to ask Rex or Ken to change their
name to "Julius Caesar" so we could have a bit of ancient Rome on the field..
but until then, we are proud to have Mark in our legion of umpires. And who knows, maybe
Cleopatra will show up soon at Timmons to cheer on Mark and the GLL!
Thanks Mark for joining the GLL team! |
