Who is that new umpire??? Man, he looks familiar - just not used to seeing
him in Blue!! Of course, it is Quinton Kinman! Quinton is the "rookie" umpire on the 2010 GLL crew but he has been a GLL "regular"
for years, first as parent and fan, then coach, then Board Member. League Director
(and also an excellent "grounds crew guy") and now umpire. Quinton's son Peyton
moved through the GLL ranks for six years, becoming an excellent player and making
many post-season tournament teams. With Peyton moving up to play for Hughes
Middle School, Quinton "moved up" to become a GLL umpire this season. He brings
a unique insider view to the diamond after seeing GLL baseball from every other
perspective over the past years. Quinton as a coach was often a bundle of nerves,
especially when his son was pitching, but he is cool and in control on the diamond.
Over the past few years he has studied the game and attended training on umpiring,
and has also visited many other Little Leagues across the Southeast, learning
pros and cons from each one. The Kinman family has been great supportors of GLL over the years and we are
glad Quinton has found this special way to stay involved with our league. Wonder
if he has a new found appreciation for the Men in Blue, after being on the other
side of the chalk as coach and parent for so many seasons !!!
Thanks Quinton for all you and your family do for GLL! |
