Adam Cox
Adam passed away on 6/29/2010 at age 24 following an accident. GLL sent flowers
and a note to his family expressing our sympathy for their loss and our appreciation
for Adam in working with our kids the past two seasons. Adam loved baseball
and working with young players and impressed our players and all of us with GLL
with his dedication and zest for life. Godspeed, Adam!

Greenville Game Highlights
Games 1 and 2
The Greenville Juniors kicked off their season Tuesday, 5/18 with a double-header
sweep of Wade Hampton at Mayberry Park. Starter Ashe Macfie notched the 5-2 win
with strong pitching in the opener and Weston McDonald followed up with a dominating
complete game 6-1 win in the nightcap. Big Red had solid hitting and defense through
the entire lineup in an extremely well-played pair of games by both squads. Juniors
is hard-ball played on fields with big-league dimensions and the big boys represented
Greenville Little League well with top notch play and sportsmanship.
Games 3 and 4
The GLL Juniors evened their record at 2-2 after dropping a Thursday, 5/20 doubleheader
to a tough Northwest squad from Blue Ridge. Big Red was edged 2-1 in the opener
despite a super pitching performance by Jamie Conner. In the bottom of the final
frame, GLL had the potential tying run at 2nd and winining run at 1st with no
outs when the Northwest second-baseman speared a screaming line-drive and started
a rare L4-6-3 game-ending triple play! In the nightcap, the boys in red endured
a dominating hitting and pitching performace by Northwest's impressive #00, an
8th grader as big as major-leaguer Josh Hamilton and with just as much power!
"00" slammed a 400-ft 2-RBI over-the-fence HR to the deepest part of Mayberry
Park and a tape-measure 2-RBI RF triple, then dusted GLL with a two perfect middle
relief innings behind an 80 MPH fastball and a nasty bender of a curve. Despite
big "00", GLL had two on and the winning run on the dugout step in the final
frame before falling 8-4.
Games 5 and 6
On Monday, 5/24, Big Red could not overcome pitching and defensive lapses in
the 1st inning of Game 1 of the doubleheader but played well the rest of the game
to fall 7-2 to Northwood. The nightcap was called early due to darkness with Northwood
up 2-0 due to two unearned runs with the Greenville squad again playing well after
falling behind with defensive miscues in the 1st inning.
Games 7 and 8
The Greenville Juniors evened their record at 4-4 with a doubleheader sweep of
Foothills on Thursday, 5/27 at Mayberry. Jaime Connor pitched a 1-0 shutout
in the nightcap with Ashe Macfie driving in the game-winning run. In the nightcap,
Macfie went the distance for a 6-3 win. Both games featured strong offensive
support and defense from the Big Red lineup, including Weston McDonald at catcher,
Bryce Reeves patroling shortstop, and Bonner Snyder anchoring second base and
then left-field.
Games 9 and 10, 11 and 12
The Juniors had several players on beach trips and most of these games were not
played.
Games 13 and 14
In the season finale at Mayberry Park, GLL played Northwood toe-to-toe from the
2nd inning on but were edged out again due to some hard hits and defensive lapses
in the 1st inning. Ashe Macfie pitched well and the bats starting booming for
GLL in the late innings. In the nightcap, GLL starter Weston McDonald pitched
great and staked the Big Red to a 2-2 tie before the lights went out at 10pm,
ending a fine season by the Juniors!!!
Thanks players, coaches, and fans for a fun and productive Juniors Season !!
