Umpire crew chief Benny Bishop is lifelong resident of the Greenville area and
currently lives in Easley...
In Benny's own words.....
"I have been employed at American Tire for 13 years as an equipment and supply
salesman. I have umpired for 15 years. Baseball has been my favorite sport since
I was a child playing in youth, church and high school leagues. After college
I played fast pitch softball for a number of years. Rex and I were teammates on
most of these teams.
After coaching youth teams and my playing days behind me I thought the best way
to stay involved in the game was to become an umpire. I have umpired high school,
at Northwood LL, and Easley LL before coming to Greenville Little League seven years ago. I really enjoy umpiring
at GLL because everyone is friendly and we have great leadership on the Board.
It really seems to be extended family when we are here, and as much time as we spend here that is a good thing. When
I am not here I enjoy playing a little golf as well as attending football and
basketball games at Clemson. My favorite players growing up were Eddie Matthews,
Hank Aaron, and Warren Spahn of the Milwaukee Braves and later the Atlanta Braves.
My very understanding wife's name is Betty. I have 2 sons Jonathan and Josh. Jonathan has helped us
umpire some thru the years.
I really do consider it a privilege to be associated with GLL and hope that our
relationship continues in the future."
Thanks Benny for your leadership, on and off the field. It is OUR privilege
to have you with the Greenville Little League! |
