Spring 2020 Suspended

Due to the concerns surrounding COVID-19, a coronavirus, Little League International, Greenville County Recreation, and Greenville Little League have suspended all activities for our Spring 2020 season.  The Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page below contains as much information as we have to share, but please feel free to send your questions to us if something isn't covered, or clear.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is the Spring 2020 suspended?
Little League International released guidance to all Leagues, recommending the suspension of current, or the delayed start of Little League schedules for the Spring 2020 season until May 11th.  In addition to that, the State of South Carolina has strongly suggesting families participate in "social distancing" to curb the spread of the virus.  To ensure the safety of the fans and families of our Little League teams, all Greenville Little League events have subsequently been suspended.

Has there been a confirmed case of COVID-19 in our League?
At the time of this posting, no.  This suspension of play is precautionary.

Can we practice during the time in which GLL events are suspended?
No.  While Little League activities are suspended, fields are not available for our use.  All practices and games should be considered to be cancelled until further notice.  It is our strong recommendation that all activities involving multiple families from within a team also cease.

Will we make up the games that we miss between now and May 11th?
The best answer we can give right now is that the longer the suspension is in place, the fewer games we'll be able to play.  We have options for shortening our season and still finishing it on schedule, but there are a lot of moving pieces.  Our schedule is built backwards from the dates of the Little League International Tournament and the series of Special Games that we participate in that you know as the Coach Pitch All-stars tournament.  With those events acting as one book-end to our season, our desire to have our own post-season tournament, field availability, and the number of players/teams and thus games, we have to open registration in December to make it all work.  The Greenville Little League season as previously scheduled and planned for cannot withstand a suspension of this magnitude without a significant impact.  We will make every effort to provide a quality Little League experience to our players and families once we can return to the field.

What does this mean for the tournament season ("All-stars")?
We do not have any additional information at this time about the impact of the suspension of regular season games on the Little League International Tournament.  Based on the language used in the LLI announcement, we expect that the tournaments will still take place.  The requirements for participation in the international tournament are likely to be altered due to the restrictions on our regular season schedule.

What about other Leagues?  Are they also suspending their seasons?

All South Carolina District 7 leagues are under the same restrictions as Greenville Little League.  It is expected that a state-wide mandate to follow Little League's recommendation will take place.

Are we still planning to hold events during our Spring season, like our day with the Drive and Family Fun Night?
At this time, we do not expect to be able to participate with the Greenville Drive as previously scheduled.  Once we have a better idea on when we can return to the fields, we'll have a better grasp on the schedule of possible events.  Stay tuned to our website and Facebook page for further updates as delays and cancellations are being announced daily in other sports organizations.

Can I get a refund for my Little League registration/sponsorship?
Yes, but we will not be processing any refunds before May 11th.  Please give us time to understand the full impact of the suspension on our League.  If we can resume our Spring season, we will establish a schedule of events and communicate this to our current registered players.  If at that time, you wish to withdraw from the League, you will have an option to do so.  Furthermore, we have already incurred costs (uniforms, umpires, etc), but are putting policies in place to mitigate any further ones.  Once we understand the impact of this suspension on our season, we will be more prepared to answer questions related to fees, costs, and refunds.
