Spring 2020 Suspended

Due to the concerns surrounding COVID-19, a coronavirus, Greenville Little League has suspended all activities for our Spring 2020 season.  The Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page below contains information regarding our Spring season, and our plans for the future.  In addition to the FAQ, we held a Town Hall to address questions on May 24th, a recording of which can be viewed.  Please feel free to send your questions to us if something isn't covered, or clear.

Frequently Asked Questions

*UPDATED* Why is the Spring 2020 season cancelled?
Little League International released guidance to all Leagues, recommending the suspension of current, or the delayed start of Little League schedules for the Spring 2020 season until May 11th.  In addition to that, the State of South Carolina issued executive orders restricting our ability to deliver a youth sports program.  As of late May, we began to see notices that fields would begin opening for our use, with games being available in June and July.  At the time we made the decision to cancel our season, Greenville Little League did not have commitment from Greenville County to reopen access to Conestee Park limiting the number of games and practices we were going to be able to offer.  The strong safety guidelines published by Little League, the CDC, and the local municipalities made it impossible to responsibly protect our younger age groups.  On top of that, we were the last League within District 7 to announce cancellations, and by that time, GLL teams which played interleague games had no one to play.

*UPDATED* Can we still practice or get together as a team now that the season has been cancelled?
If you can find an open public field, you are free to practice.  Keep in mind that our normal field lease agreements are not in place, so you will not be able to use the baseball fields at Conestee Park or Lakeside Park.

*UPDATED* What does this mean for the tournament season ("All-stars")?
Little League announced on April 30, 2020 that all Regional and International Tournaments were cancelled.  They cited difficulties with getting international players into the States to participate in the tournaments, as well as respecting local State restrictions on travel and youth sports.  As other Leagues within our District and the State made decisions about the format or cancellation of their Spring seasons, it became clear that All-Star tournaments even at the local level were not going to be an option.  At this point, we do not expect any form of All-star experience for our players this Spring.

*UPDATED*  What about other Leagues?  Are they also suspending their seasons?

All South Carolina Little Leagues are under the same restrictions as Greenville Little League.  Other Leagues are following a similar plan as GLL, hoping to resume play in June.  Others have combined the remainder of their Spring season with their Fall Ball programs, and thus will have a regular season that extends into October.

*UPDATED* Are we still planning to hold events during our Spring season, like our day with the Drive and Family Fun Night?
No.  Our previously planned events during the Spring season involve large groups of fans to be in close proximity to one another, and would make responsible social distancing guidelines difficult to enforce.  Stay tuned to our website and Facebook page for further updates .

*UPDATED* Can I get a refund for my Little League registration/sponsorship?
Please remember that our League is a non-profit organization.  Our costs for a season of baseball and softball are mostly front-loaded, and our registration fees do not fully cover the cost to play for each player.  Because the season was started, equipment was purchased, and uniforms were distributed, we've incurred costs that we can't recoup.  In order to provide some value back to the entire player community, a per-player credit towards our Fall season is available to any player that is not continuing with the Spring 2020 season.
