New to the League, or need a refresher? Here are a few of the things you can expect during Greenville Little League's Spring Season.
Registration will open in mid December, and remains open until mid January, so make sure that you mark your calendar. Due to limitations on field and volunteer availability, spaces will be limited again this year. Please make sure to register on time so you don't miss out!
We begin the process of
finding our coaches early during the registration process to ensure that we can locate and communicate with them well in advance of our first on-field activity. All of Little League is volunteer-run, so please consider helping to lead your player's team on the field.
Our coaches attend a
coaching clinic, where they will be given instruction on Little League rules, logistics for managing a team at GLL, and how to teach the fundamentals. This is an important step in ensuring our coaches are well-versed in the rules and expectations of Little League, and arms them with the skills they need to successfully lead a team.
All players* age 7-16 attend a
Player Evaluation day, where they will be asked to perform basic baseball/softball skills. These will include hitting, base running, throwing, and catching. These are NOT try-outs. All players will be placed on a team. Evaluations are performed to ensure that our teams are built equally.
T-Ball and CP Prep teams are selected by the coaches from the list of registered players. Coach Pitch, Minors, Majors, and Junior/Senior teams are formed through a
player draft. We do not allow for player pairing requests during the Spring, but siblings will be placed on the same team. If you have a special circumstance that requires your player to be paired with another, please contact us. All requests for a specific coach need to be sent to that coach, as he/she will pick their team.
Once the teams are formed, it is time to
practice and prepare for
Opening Day. On Opening Day, our plan is for all teams to play a game. We will also take player photos before the games. This will be the team's first of
10+ regular season games. Between practices and games, plan on
3 events per week. Games are scheduled by the League, and will occur on any of Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, or Saturday. When teams are not scheduled for a game, the League will provide practice time, which will likely fall on the weekend. Teams do not always play or practice on the same day each week, nor will their game and practice times always be the same. Your schedule during our Spring season will need to be flexible.
Divisions for ages 7+ participate in a double-elimination post-season tournament, with the Championship games happening on the last weekend of our season. Our
Championship Games and
Family Fun Night celebration now happen on the same evening. During this evening, players whose teams did not qualify for the championship games will be able to participate in skills competitions and the Home Run Derby.
While coaches will have access to many fields around Greenville and Mauldin for practice, most games will be played at
Conestee Park, Lakeside Park, or Timmons Park. Conestee Park does have a full
concession stand with hot food options, and traditional ballpark snacks for sale.
*T-ball and CP Prep players do not participate in player evaluations or in the post-season tournament, although they are invited to participate in Family Fun Night. T-ball players are the only division to receive participation trophies. You can find descriptions of the different
divisions under League Info.
**In the event that a game is rained out, the League will reschedule the game to the soonest available time slot, which could include Wednesday evenings. T-ball games will not be rescheduled.
